Verusenaga Tomato pachadi !



Verusenaga Tomato Pachadi (Groundnut & tomato chutney) is a delicious accompaniment for idlis / dosas. If you love groundnuts, then you should try this. There are different varieties of groundnut chutneys and recently I posted this Peanut Chutney (With Onions). There are others with coconut, with just few lentils n garlic etc. This Pachdi is also called Palli Pachdi or Palli tamata Pachdi in few regions.


INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup roasted Groundnuts (skin removed)
  • 2 Tomatoes
  • 2 tsp Oil
  • 2 tsp Urad dal
  • 2 small pieces Ginger
  • 2 - 3 Cloves Garlic
  • 2 Green Chillis
  • 2 Red Dry Chillis
  • Tamarind (marble size) (optional)
  • salt as needed

To Temper

  • 2 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Urad Dal (optional)
  • 1/4 Tsp Cumin Seeds
  • a pinch of Asafoedita

STEPS
  • Heat oil in a fry pan, and add urad dal. Once it is browned slightly add ginger garlic chillis, followed by roughly chopped Tomatoes.
  • Saute till tomatoes turn soft. Turn off stove and let them cool a bit.


  • In a mixie jar first grind the roasted peanuts, and then add the tomato mixture.


  • Add salt, tamarind and some water and grind to a smooth chutney.
  • In a small pan, do the tempering with the ingredients given under tempering and pour on the chutney.

NOTES
  • You can skip tamarind, if your tomatoes are already sour.
  • Adjust chillis as per spice level.
