Peanut Chutney !

Peanut chutney / Ground nut Chutney is prepared in a number of ways. If you have roasted peanuts handy then making this delicious chutney is matter of minutes. Sometimes it is made with green chillis and coconut , sometimes with red dry chillis and onions. I will post the other ways of soon.

  • 1/2 cup Peanuts
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 Dry red chillis
  • 2 - 3 Garlic cloves
  • marble size tamarind
  • salt as needed

To Temper

  • 2 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Urad Dal
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • a pinch of hing
  • few curry leaves

  • Dry roast peanuts in a pan for 4 - 5 minutes until the skin is charred here n there. Remove and keep aside and let them cool.
  • In the same pan, heat some oil and add dry chillis, garlic and onions and saute till onions turn soft.

  • Just rub the peanuts with both hands and the skin should be removed easily.  Blow out the skin  then take the roasted peanuts in a mixie jar along with the fried onions, chillis, garlic, salt and tamarind and grind to a smooth paste  adding some water.

  • Heat oil in a smal pan, add mustard seeds and urad dal. Once mustard splutters and urad dal turnd slightly golden, add cumin, hing anf curry leaves and turn off stove.
  • Pout this tempering on the chutney and give a mix.

  • Adjust water as per the consistency you want.
  • You can also add a pinch of jaggery while grinding to give a slightly different taste.
  • Serve with hot idlis / dosas.

With Love,
