Instant Oats Idli !

Finally the much awaited and long time pending post has come alive here today. Oats is part of our regular diet in many forms. But this one is my personal favorite as it is a savior during the peak winters when it is challenging to ferment the normal Idli batter.
It is really quick and a filling guilt free breakfast. It is difficult to make out this Idli is made of oats unless told.
The flavorful tempering definitely enhances the taste. Sometimes I make it more nutritious by adding peas and other grated veggies like courgettes, or finely chopped spinach.
If you are an Idli lover or prefer steamed food then these are all for you !

STEPS

  • Take oats in a pan and roast in medium flame until it is roasted well.
  • Then make it to a fine powder in a mixie.

  •  In a pan take oil and add urad dal and mustard seeds, once the dal turns brown add the jeera and green chillis.
  • Then add semolina (you can also use wheat rava instead of normal rava) and fry it for 2 - 3 minutes.

  •  Cool the rava mixture and add the ground oats to it. Then add grated carrot, salt and curd / yogurt to it.

  •  Add sufficient water and mix well to form a idli batter consistency. Add Eno and mix well and pour them on greased idli moulds.

Steam the idlis for 12 - 15 minutes or until done. A knife or toothpick inserted should come out clean.

Serve with a chutney of your choice and i would recommend to have a Spicy Chutney preferably with this oats idli.

  1. Can we use rolled oats instead of quick cook oats?
